MANILA – Filipinos celebrating Independence Day can expect mostly fair weather nationwide as the southwest monsoon (habagat) weakens, the state weather bureau PAGASA reported Friday.
Based on its 4:00 a.m. advisory on June 12, 2026, PAGASA said weather conditions are improving across much of the country, with the habagat gradually losing strength. However, the easterlies are now influencing the country’s weather pattern, bringing localized rainfall in several regions.
PAGASA said that the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and the Davao Region may experience isolated rain showers brought by moist easterly winds coming from the Pacific. These rains are expected to be scattered and intermittent, but may become heavy during thunderstorms.
In Metro Manila and most parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. These weather conditions are typical during the transition period between monsoon systems and localized weather activity.
The bureau emphasized that despite the generally fair weather outlook, the public should remain alert for possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms, especially in vulnerable communities.
Sea conditions across the Philippines are also expected to remain manageable, with light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters. PAGASA said this should support normal maritime operations, though caution is still advised for fisherfolk and small-craft operators.
