MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and Bell-Kenz Pharma are stepping up efforts to improve emergency preparedness in Philippine sports through a campaign that will train athletes and sports personnel in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Dubbed “Bell-Kenz Sagip CPR,” the initiative aims to equip participants with practical life-saving skills that could prove critical during sudden cardiac arrest and other medical emergencies.
PSC Commissioner Walter Torres announced the program during the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at the PSC Media Room of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
Joining him were Philippine Life Saving head Danilo “DJ” Salonga Jr., Bell-Kenz Pharma director Patrick Larraga, National Youth Commission Undersecretary Joseph Francisco Ortega and Dr. Alexis Dimapilis, representing the Department of Health.
Representatives of the Philippine Coast Guard and elite national athletes are also expected to participate in the campaign.
Organizers stressed the importance of CPR knowledge in sporting environments, where a quick response can make a difference while emergency medical assistance is being arranged.
The initiative seeks to expand awareness of basic life support and encourage athletes, coaches and other sports workers to take an active role in promoting safety within their respective organizations.
The next activity is scheduled for October 29, 2026, at Ninoy Aquino Stadium, where participants are expected to undergo practical CPR instruction.
The partnership hopes to build a more safety-conscious sports community by making emergency response skills an important part of athletic preparation and event management.
