MANILA — A House prosecutor has called on the legal team of Vice President Sara Duterte to produce an individual named “Mary Grace Piattos” during her upcoming impeachment trial in the Senate, saying her appearance could help clarify questions tied to alleged confidential fund use.
Lanao del Sur 1st District Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong, part of the House prosecution panel, remarked as preparations continue for the pre-trial phase, where both sides are expected to submit evidence lists, witness names, and other procedural matters.
The name “Piattos” surfaced in earlier congressional investigations into the Vice President’s confidential funds, where she was listed among supposed recipients of disbursements, drawing public scrutiny and questions.
Adiong said the defense could help settle public doubts if it is able to present the individual in court.
“Should the defense be able to produce Mary Grace Piattos, it would greatly help address the public’s continuing questions on the issue of confidential funds,” he said.
He also pointed to another name, “Boy Villamin,” which appeared in the same documents under investigation, noting reported inconsistencies in signatures found on acknowledgment receipts.
The lawmaker stressed that forensic examination of signatures and documents would be crucial during the trial to verify authenticity and establish factual findings.
The House prosecution panel is currently finalizing preparations for the pre-trial conference, where evidentiary objections, documentary submissions, and witness identification will be tackled.
The impeachment proceedings against Vice President Duterte are expected to center on allegations involving the use and liquidation of confidential funds, among other charges outlined in the Articles of Impeachment.
