MANILA – The Golden Tigresses of the University of Santo Tomas continued their UAAP Season 88 journey after eliminating Far Eastern University in a playoff match at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
UST rebounded from a slow start to dominate the latter sets, sealing a 16-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-16 win.
The victory ensured UST’s place in the stepladder quarterfinals and marked its sixth straight appearance in the league’s top four.
Up next for the Tigresses is a showdown against Adamson University, a team they have yet to defeat this season.
If successful, UST will advance to face reigning champion National University, with a Finals slot against De La Salle University on the line.
Coach Shaq Delos Santos credited the team’s perseverance, saying their experience has strengthened their resolve.
Angeline Poyos led all scorers with 26 points, while Jurado, Gula, and Bron contributed key support.
Pepito and Carballo also delivered crucial performances on defense and playmaking, respectively.
FEU’s Gerzel Petallo led her side with 14 points, but the Lady Tamaraws bowed out of contention and finished fifth overall.
