QUEZON CITY — Bright lights, colors and creativity filled the Quantum Skyview at Gateway Mall 2 in Araneta City as the Gateway Art Fair 2026 officially opened on October 1.
Spearheaded by the J. Amado Araneta Foundation (JAAF) and Gateway Gallery, the celebration of local artistry brought together culture advocates, patrons and the public. Adding elegance and star power to the grand ribbon-cutting ceremony was Binibining Pilipinas International 2025 Katrina Anne Johnson, who served as the event’s host.
Quezon City officials led by Mayor Joy Belmonte graced the opening, underscoring the government’s support for the city’s vibrant creative sector. In her keynote address, Belmonte highlighted the importance of community events in making the arts more accessible while promoting homegrown talent.
“We deeply appreciate Araneta City for continuously providing a space where our talented QCitizens and Filipino artists can truly shine on a grand stage,” Belmonte said.
Meanwhile, JAAF President Rowell Recinto highlighted the significance of the annual fair as a testament to the foundation’s commitment to Filipino heritage. He said the “City of Firsts” remains dedicated to providing local creators with a platform to freely express themselves.
“The Gateway Art Fair is more than just an exhibit; it is a movement that brings art directly to the heart of the community, ensuring creativity remains accessible to all,” Recinto said.
For veteran painter and exhibitor Gerardo Jimenez, the gathering serves as a vital bridge connecting artists with art lovers and casual mall-goers. Jimenez expressed gratitude for the strong public interest in artworks depicting the diverse realities of Filipino life.
“It is truly fulfilling to see everyday visitors stop by, appreciate our hard work, and connect deeply with the soul of Philippine culture through our canvases,” Jimenez said.
The multi-day cultural showcase features hundreds of artworks, ranging from traditional paintings to modern sculptures by emerging and established artists from across the country. Aside from the main gallery exhibitions, organizers have also lined up interactive art workshops and talks designed to nurture the next generation of creative minds.
Art enthusiasts and the general public can visit the Gateway Art Fair 2026 for free until October 4 at venues across Gateway Malls 1 and 2.
Organizers are encouraging the public to support local creators and experience the country’s thriving art scene. (REY NILLAMA)
