SULAT, Eastern Samar — Fiesta celebrations in the municipality of Sulat will now be limited to a single day. Suspension of social activities related to the town fiesta was also temporarily halted as part of cost-cutting and energy conservation measures amid economic uncertainties linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Town Mayor Javier Zacate issued an executive order outlining new guidelines for public events in the municipality. Under the directive, only essential religious activities related to the town fiesta will be permitted, while other social gatherings and festivities are placed on hold to reduce expenses and energy consumption.
The Sulat town fiesta is slated for July 30 and 31 each year.
The mayor said the move aims to help the community cope with possible economic impacts brought about by the international crisis, particularly its potential effect on fuel prices and the local economy.
In separate initiatives, Zacate also ordered the establishment of a municipal pantry program designed to encourage residents and farmers to donate surplus agricultural produce. The program aims to support families who may be affected by rising costs of goods and services.
Another directive issued by the mayor prohibits the slaughter of carabaos in the municipality. The measure is intended to protect the population of farm animals, which play a crucial role in agricultural production.
Both orders took effect on March 31.
