MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. called on Filipinos to take time for prayer and reflection as the country begins the observance of Holy Week with Palm Sunday.
In his message on Sunday, the President joined millions of Filipino Christians in commemorating the sacred period, emphasizing the importance of faith, humility, and service to others.
Marcos said the season serves as a reminder of the boundless love of Jesus Christ, who sacrificed His life in obedience to God.
“In this solemn season, we remember the immeasurable love of Jesus Christ who offered His life in perfect obedience to the will of the Father,” he said.
Holy Week commemorates the suffering, death, and resurrection of Christ. The observance starts with Palm Sunday and ends with Easter Sunday, a time when many Filipinos participate in religious traditions and prayer.
According to Marcos, Christ’s passion teaches valuable lessons about sacrifice and compassion.
“The Passion of Christ reminds us that genuine greatness lies not in power or privilege, but in sacrifice, service, and the willingness to bear the burdens of others,” he said.
He encouraged Filipinos to put their faith into action by supporting one another and fostering stronger communities.
“As we reflect on His sacrifice, may we deepen our love for one another, serve with sincerity, and remain firm in our faith even amid life’s challenges,” Marcos added.
The President also expressed hope that the season would inspire unity and renewed dedication to building a better nation.
“May this Holy Week inspire us to become a nation strengthened by faith, united by a shared purpose, and guided by compassion and service,” he said.
Marcos concluded by wishing Filipinos a meaningful and blessed observance of Holy Week.
Maundy Thursday (April 2) and Good Friday (April 3) are regular holidays, while Black Saturday (April 4) has been declared a special non-working holiday.
