SAN LORENZO, Guimaras – The island province of Guimaras is hosting the opening leg of the 5150 Islands of the Philippines Triathlon, drawing competitors from 14 countries for Sunday’s (08 Mar 2026) endurance race.
The event will kick off with a 1.5-kilometer swim at Playa de Paraiso in Barangay San Enrique. After completing the swim, participants will tackle a 40-kilometer bike course stretching from the resort’s gate to the provincial capitol. The final leg is a 10-kilometer run heading to the Mosqueda campus of Guimaras State University before looping back to the capitol.
The triathlon is mounted in collaboration with the National Sports Tourism Inter-Agency Committee led by the Philippine Sports Commission, along with the Department of Tourism and the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority.
Princess Galura of Sunrise Events Inc. said the goal is to make the island province a centerpiece of the race and showcase its scenic terrain to athletes and visitors.
Tourism officials believe the event will further boost the region’s sports tourism sector. Department of Tourism Western Visayas Regional Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez said the competition contributes to efforts to diversify tourism attractions in the region.
Representative JC Rahman Nava also expressed hope that hosting the triathlon would strengthen Guimaras’ standing as a venue for outdoor sports.
Following the Guimaras leg, the race series will continue in Camiguin, Panglao, and Lapu-Lapu City later this year.
